Going green, gets Centara Grand Krabi the gold

Bangkok, Thailand – July 9, 2015 – For the past five years, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi has been working with EarthCheck to improve their sustainability efforts.  After creating and implementing a large-scale environmental and social management system, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi has now achieved the status of “EarthCheck Gold”, recognizing the resort’s successful five-year-long commitment to sustainable tourism.  As the first property in Thailand to receive the Gold certification, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi is proud of their team that continues to uphold the Centara values for sustainability and innovation.  Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi, in partnership with EarthCheck, created distinct policies and procedures such as risk assessments, waste management plans and internal audits in order to achieve greater sustainability and the tools by which to measure progress. Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi launches Water bottling plant

Further to being awarded EarthCheck Silver Certification for its ongoing commitment towards environmental responsibilities and sustainable programmes, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi has launched its own water bottling plant using a reverse osmosis system, also known as hyper filtration. This process allows removing particles as small as ions from a solution and consequently purifies water, removes salts and impurities, and improves the water’s colours, taste and properties. The resort commenced distribution in September this year, with an extremely positive reaction from our guests.

“We have been working on this concept for some time now, and have followed the pattern that we have at our Centara Grand Island Resort in the Maldives,” says David Good, vice president for operations at Centara Hotels & Resorts.

“Our bottling plant filters the water, which comes from underground wells, and uses renewable glass bottles rather than plastic bottles. We save on unnecessary use of fuel in transporting bottled water by boat, and we do not have the environmental problem of disposing of plastic bottles.

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi joins community in preserving mangrove forests

Mark O’Sullivan (centre), Resident Manager of Centara Grand Beach Resort  & Villas Krabi led management and staff in an operation to plant 600 mangroves at Klong Muang, a conservation area for mangrove forests in Krabi province. Also seen in the photo are Chanittha Rakkaew (right), the hotel’s Director of Human Resources and Wanala Sungjun (left), the hotel’s Executive Secretary.

This environmental conservation activity was arranged as part of Centara’s corporate social responsibilities and environment policy.
